A somewhat biased view on China…
Really amazing! As they say in the video…
The Limits Of The Human Body Are Yet To Be Discovered!
Last week, we went to a Photo Studio on Wang Fu Jing (王府井, Wángfǔjǐng) - one of the biggest commercial streets in Beijing - to take a picture of our Team! I’ll let you guess where I am on the picture! ^_^

Here comes a new blog hosted by Today in China!
Hutong to Highrise documents the changes occurring in Beijing by using the photovoice research technique. They hope to learn more about hutong dwellers and see the world through their eyes by giving them cameras and the means to document what is important to them. Taking the camera out of the hands of the observer and putting it into the hands of the subject helps the observer to see the world as it is through the eyes of the subject. Using local people’s perspective is what makes their project unique.
I’ll keep you up-to-date with their progress! On their blog, you may see the report from Isaac who is trying to find interesting hutong people ready to work with them on this project. As you may read, it’s not easy and people are quite suspicious.
Do not hesitate if you want to give some help or if you want to sponsor their project! Contact me directly or leave a message on their blog.
Good luck guys!
And by the way, if you want to have your own blog related to CHina… Don’t forget to contact me, I still have room for three or four more blogs!
Do you want to learn Chinese while reading one of the most famous book on Earth? Chinese-Bible.com provide the Bible in English, French, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional and Pinyin. You may decide which of these languages you want to display and they appear at the same time on the screen. Here is an example:
Ainsi, il y eut un soir, et il y eut un matin: ce fut le premier jour.
And the evening and the morning were the first day.
有晚上,有早晨,这是头一日。
You3/4 wan3shang , you3/4 zao3chen , zhe4 shi4 tou2 yi1 ri4.

I noticed this morning that Google Earth for Beijing has been updated.
Before, everything East of the 3rd Ring Road was in really bad quality…
And the East of the 3rd Ring Road is quite important! That’s where I live,
where I work, where I hang out…
Check for example the Lido Office, my working place, North East of the
4th Ring Road. You can even see the green umbrellas of Starbucks! That’s
where we have a cup of coffee everyday after lunch… ^_^

As I told you in a previous post, there is a big project for a railroad to Lhasa, Tibet. And the first train will leave on Saturday!
Trains will run between Lhasa and cities in three directions: Beijing, Chongqing/Chengdu and Xining/Lanzhou. Here are some more details about the trains from Beijing:
From Beijing to Lhasa
From Lhasa to Beijing
This is a big change when you compare the price of the train tickets with the plane tickets around 4500RMB (450EUR). I do not dare to think about how Lhasa in particular and Tibet in general will evolve after the 1st of July… I’m quite afraid Lhasa will turn into another touristic nightmare, just like many other interesting and beautiful places around China. I am really happy that I’ve been there before the railroad.
The story about the railroad to Lhasa is just starting… RailPartners (American company) has an agreement with the Qinghai-Tibet Railway under the Ministry of Railways about running a $1,000-a-day luxury sightseeing train called the Tangula Express. This train will provide 100-square-foot private suites, oversized glass windows, haute cuisine, and full bathrooms!

Railroad to Lhasa - Today in China
A new Aquatic Park - The Great Waterslide of China - just opened beginning of June. It looks promising and already attracts more than 20,000 visitors a day during the week-end! The slope is more that 500 meters long and you may stop in the Watch Towers for refreshment, cocktails and massage!
Okay, I admit… It’s a fake news. But it would be a nice idea for an Aquatic Park!

If you stayed long enough in Beijing - I would say one or two weeks in a basic appartment - you know cockroaches are a real pain! At the beginning, you’ll get along with them but then you’ll become nervous until you decide to move to another appartments just to discover that there are even more cockroaches in this new place…
Here is a little game for you Cockroach Hunter! Take your City Weekend of That’s Beijing and smash at least 100 of them before the sleeping man becomes crazy!
Aaaaargh!!!!!
Today in China Daily, there is an article about Chinese fans facing health hazard related to the World Cup.
They provide some advices such as:
They then continue with a list people who died because of the World Cup…
The fact is that with 6 hours of D-Time between Germany and China, a lot of football fans are watching the game until 5 o’ clock in the morning and have to get up early to work in the daytime… Which leaves them less than 4 hours of sleep per night! It was much easier 4 years ago when the World Cup was organized by Japan and Korea…
Reminder: If you still want to watch the games, Beer Mania has a big screen in Sanlitun South…
