Strange disease kills 17 in Sichuan

This news made it to the first page of this Monday’s China Daily. The deadly illness is probably caused by streptococcus suis, a bacteria spread amongst pigs. What is quite important about this news is that the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Agriculture seem to have done a good job searching for the sick and informing the people. This has been approved by WHO spokesman Bob Dietz saying “This is a good job of disease surveillance, and shows China has vastly improved its system since the SARS period in 2003″.

Can this be considered as a comment?
Well hum… 17 people? SARS is back? What about this : known disease called AIDS kills millions in China and no one does anything about it?

Yes, the situation about HIV in China is a disaster. But I don’t think that no one does anything about it. In fact, I pretty much think the opposite. Just have a look at China Daily Website and look for AIDS. You will find a lot of articles about AIDS. Amongst the articles about distributing condoms to sex workers, providing free AIDS treatment in Shaanxi, organizing campaigns targetting students and migrants, etc. I found this one: A series of cartoon used to improve awareness of AIDS, “Say No to AIDS, Care For and Cherish Life.” has started in Shenzhen.
The first episode, “Xiao Rong’s Family”, tells the story of Xiao Rong. Xiao Rong is suffering from heart disease. Her familly is poo and her father decide to sell his blood to an illegal blood collector. He gets infected and transmit it to his wife. Her wife gets pregnant and the new born baby is infected to.
